It does so by featuring a temperature regulation system that can both heat and cool the mattress based on user preference.

The design of the Chilipad is unique. It has a central control unit called the Cube which is connected to a number of silicon tubes. The user is required to feed either hot or cold water into the system which then circulates throughout the structure, thus warming or cooling the mattress.

The temperature can be controlled either wirelessly or by hand and can be anywhere between 55 degrees to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (or 13 to 43 degrees Celsius).

The Chilipad comes in a range of sizes and users can choose from its available Single, Twin, Full, Split California King, Queen, King and California King size.

The first three in the size category are single zone, meaning they have only one pad and thus one temperature control preference. The last three are dual zone which means each of the sides can have differing temperatures which is perfect for couples who want to sleep together but not necessarily with the same warmth setting.

Working of the Chilipad.

Setting up and cleaning a ChiliPad.

If you are assembling a Chilipad, here are the steps you need to follow to get it to work properly:

  1. Secure the pad.

Unfold the pad and place it neatly on top of your mattress. The pad comes with elastic straps to secure it tightly around the edges. Make sure it is stable and won’t move around in on itself. Attach the microtubes that come bundled. Those can be attached either at the head or the foot of your bed.

  1. Connect the cube.

Place the Cube on a flat surface and make sure to leave at least a couple of feet of room on either side for ventilation. Plug it into an electric outlet and make sure the water tank sits on top thus ensuring there is no leakage.

You can also place the Cube beneath your bed to hide it from view. If your bed isn’t high enough, risers can be used. Connect the male end of the external tube attachment to the female connector of the Cube. Make sure when you connect the Cube, the blue release button should rest facing upwards.

  1. Fill with water.

Find the opening on top of the Cube from where you are to add water into the device. Unscrew and add distilled water to your temperature preference.

Once you’ve completely filled the water tank, turn on the device by pressing the power button. The Cube will beep lightly and then will start to channel the water through the tubes.

As water flows into the tubes and gets distributed throughout the pad surface, keep adding more water until the ‘add water’ indicator light goes out. Once you’ve filled it will all the water it needs, screw the cap back on.

If you are unboxing the Chillipad and find trace amounts of water in its water tank, please do not panic. It is normal and actually a good sign. It means that your unit has undergone quality control tests before being packaged. If your Chillipad water tank is dry, it might not have been tested.

  1. Adjust temperature as you need.

Your temperature controls are located right next to the power button. Press the flame button to make the water hotter or the snowflake button to make it colder.

However it is to be noted that the display does not show the current operating temperature of the Chilipad. It only displays the user set temperature and once that temperature is reached, the display blinks thrice to notify the user of the same. Most temperature changes will be adjusted in about 15 minutes.

Your temperature settings can also be controlled wirelessly through a remote. To use the remote, press and hold the power button for about five seconds until the unit beeps and blinks 888 on the display. At this point turn on the remote. The unit will beep after it recognizes the remote control and will display the preset temperature.

If you have a dual zone Chilipad, make sure one of the pads stay turned off. You configure each one separately until both pads have your optimal temperature setting.

  1. When done, power off.

Powering off the Cube is super simple. Just press the power button while it is running to initiate shutdown. The display should immediately turn off, although the fans inside may run for another minute. It’s completely normal.

If you are not planning on using it in the next 48 hours, it is a good idea to unplug the device from the AC socket and drain the water. Draining the pad is easy. Just use the H shaped tool that comes bundled with the unit. Use the cross shaped end to drain water out of the Cube and the hollow end for the mattress pad.

Remember that dual zone Chilipads have two tube networks and two Cubes. Therefore if you have a dual zone Chilipad, you just have to do the whole process twice; once for each side.

Chilipad specifications.

The Chilipad comes with the following features and functions:

  • Temperature control: The best part about this device is that it lets users control the temperature of the bed they sleep in. Both manual and wireless temperature controls are available. Temperatures range from 55 degrees to 110 degrees F and are programmed to be one degree increments.

  • Easy storage: The Cube is quite small making it easy to store when not in use. It weighs about nine pounds.

  • Power consumption: The Chilipad uses an average of 80 W of power.

  • Power source: The Cube is AC powered which means it must be connected to a wall socket. The remote control bundled with the unit uses two AAA batteries to operate.

  • Cord length: The Chilipad power cord is a decent 8 feet in length making it easy to connect to a socket no matter how big your room is or how far the bed is from the wall.

  • Composition: The pad is made of polyester and cotton. The tubes are manufactured from medical grade silicon.

  • Weight: The Chilipad can support up to 500 pounds per zone. It is also to be noted that weight plays a factor in determining temperature delivery in the Chilipad.

Trials and warranties.

The Chilipad comes with a 90 day sleep trial for the Cube. Customers may return their units at any point during the 90 day trail period and Chili Technology will accept it no questions asked.

However, this trial is offered exclusively to customers buying directly from Chili Technology. It is not offered if you bought yours from a third party retailer.

In case your product is defective, Chili also offers exchanges. Requesting an exchange requires filling out a form online and then following their instructions.

In addition to the sleep trial, the Chilipad also comes with a 2 year warranty. However, the coverage for the warranty is not linear. During the first year, Chili Technology replaces and repairs all Chilipad components including the microtubes and Cube at no extra cost to the user (including transportation). In the second year, repairing or replacing a defective Cube unit will cost $30 to the owner.

Also, warranty coverage is limited to only customers who reside within the continental U.S. Warranties will only be acknowledged if they are brought to Chili Technology’s attention within 3 months from the problem first arising. Chili Technology also excludes warranty for Chilipads being used in a commercial setting, act of God and vandalism.

As with the trail, the warranty too is available exclusively to customers who buy directly from Chili Technology or from one of their authorized dealers.
